Honors Program

  • At Mile High Middle School we strongly believe that all students deserve to be appropriately challenged academically and work in an environment that is conducive to learning. It is with this belief that we designed our current class structure. Honors opportunities will be offered to all students in Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math. However, not all subjects are the same and therefore not all honors classes are structured in the same format.

In Math, students will be placed in either 7th grade Math, 8th grade Math/Pre-Algebra, Algebra, or Geometry depending on the skills they acquired the previous year. For Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts Mile High uses an “Embedded Honors” format to provide the Honors level material. With this format, Honors and non-Honors students are mixed within the same class. Instruction, assignments, and expectations are modified in these classes to provide appropriate experience for each student. This provides opportunities for all students to be appropriately challenged, take on leadership roles, and learn the standards in a way that is most appropriate for them individually.
